| Hello All
This may be a silly question, but I have to ask: In routine annual Spring-time pruning of White Pines and Norway Spruce (soft green candles) in order to discourage spread growth (opting for denser growth instead) and control overall size, does this also affect root spread and growth? Thank so much Ren from Ontario |

| if you cut your hair.. does that impact your feet??? my gut tells me.. that your plants have a genetic predisposition as to root growth and it will fulfill such .. regardless of haircuts ... perhaps you are hoping.. that you are doing some form of bonsai.. and thinking that will dwarf the roots.. but that doesnt work.. since bonsai is the other way.. actually hard pruning roots to force minimal top growth ... [extremely simplified ] .... is there some reason you are worried that the roots are infringing something???? like the septic???? dont recognize the name.. welcome to GW .. and the conifer forum ... ken

| Actually, it may do just that. Root growth is strongly influenced by hormones developed primarily in above-ground growing points. Now that's as far as I want to take it-it could have an effect. Beyond that, quantifying and such, I have no idea. +oM |
