you should be able to find pix of both to compare ...

but get this.. the COMPACT.. should be rather.. wait for it.. COMPACT.. as compared to the species.. and that will be either in size.. or needle length .. there has to be something more compact as compared to the plain ole ...

all that said.. i am a collector.. it baffles me.. why anyone would want more than one of anything ... there isnt anything all that special about aristata .. other than some resinous speckling on its needles

You are right -- it should be Pinus longaeva 'Sherwood Compact' -- and I love the energy of those trees, having spent time with them in the wild.

Good one, bax! But I have yet to find a reputable online grower who has Sherwood Compact in anything larger than band pots.

Song Sparrow has a slightly larger size but its 'Joe Bess'. Just as nice of a cultivar. Little pricey but its a slow grower.

Thanks for the heads-up. Still smaller than what I am hoping to find -- 2.5 quart container -- but at least there is something available.
