The ACS Conifer database

Hello,

now that winter is on it's way and work turns away from outdoor work more toward indoor work, I'd like to ask for your help on a huge, yet mutually rewarding project -- fleshing out the ACS database. If you haven't taken a look yet, it's still pretty raw, but I see it as a gem in the rough -- colorful, descriptive and interactive.

The major task at hand is getting pictures out there and fleshing out the stories and descriptions. If you're not yet and ACS member, you can post here and I'll get them into the ACS database for permanent archival. Of course, you'll get fully credited for your work.

If you are already an ACS member, you can post your own pictures and recommend additions and corrections to the record in the comments section. It's really fun and easy to do.

Click on the link below to see a finished record. I and several others will be plugging away at this project for the forseeable future.

Great idea, Dave.
As Dave said, this database is free to the public. ThereÃ¢ÂÂs much to enjoy on there now, and members are welcome to post images and comments to make it even more useful to all.

However, I need to point out what most ACS members already know -- and accept -- which is the Society's Terms of Use for posting to the web site. It's pretty standard legal boilerplate that you see on all websites these days. IÃ¢ÂÂve posted it below. What I call your attention to is the part about usage of photographs.

If you're a third party forwarding your images to Dave to post, that is OK, but you need to know that, in doing so, you are donating them to ACS (with proper credit), you assert that you have the full and clear rights to these photos and that you are assigning those rights to ACS to publish them in this way.

This doesnÃ¢ÂÂt mean that you canÃ¢ÂÂt use these same photos elsewhere, at any time, in whatever way you choose. You donÃ¢ÂÂt have to sign anything. You just need to know the Term of Use for donated photos.
