Crazy leader on Bizon Blue Spruce

I planted this Bizon Blue in the early spring, all the buds on the one side of it's terminal leader must have been damaged in transport. Also the terminal bud never opened so now I have about 5 competing leaders. Should I prune this entire bare section off and train a new leader or just let it go? This is in my front yard, I don't really want have a huge bare spot pointing out to the road. Please advise.

put down the pruners.. and step away ...

let talk about it all .... in say ... 3 to 5 years ...

for a tree that can live 30 to 50 to 70 years... you are way to antsy to go after it ...

BTW.. the leader.. is the one sitting at the top .. pointing straight up .. and its 4 or 5 leaning brothers ... its about 8 inches long ....

you are talking about decapitating LAST YEARS LEADER ... and as far as i am concerned.. the answer is almost always... NO ...

i suspect that in the 3 years or so.. the plant will figure it all out... and it.. and you ... will be very happy ...

Wait a year, and if it has developed two or more fully erect new leaders, prune out to just one leader. But as ken points out, it'll likely let just one of those top side shoots become a leader.
