Breeder's Hall - 24 - David, Noeline & Greg Sampson NZL
The Sampsons in NZL
David and Noeline Sampson founded their conifer nursery about 40 years ago, named as Cedar Lodge Nursery in New Plymouth, New Zealand. Now the son, Greg is governing the greatest conifer school in the southern hemisphere giving many new selections to the coniferography history.
Having seen the wonders of the Sampsons, I feel myself as landed on an unknown conifer planet, which remembers mostly to the missing chain continent between Europe, the southern States and the endless and unknown Pacific. Great adventure with pacific smooth. New Zealand is a meeting point of conifers for z6-z8 even up to z9.
Lady Noeline wrote me some months ago, that maoris like usually better other plants, but conifers. She will give more maori names to their nice cultivars, maybe they will be more likely them, as before. Anyway, I learn for the first 'Atawhai' or 'Oteha' or any others as 'Mangamahoe', 'Mangatawhiri'. I like conifers and maoris too.
