I believe it would be.
I've had a disappointing death of a Larix kaempferi this summer. Obviously, it never got too dry. It was in a slope so it shouldn't have been able to drown, but it did. Granted, I really wonder if most of the US seed stock is inbred and if that's part of the problem; after extensive research into the topic including contacting a horticulturalist in Japan, it doesn't appear that any companies (or the government) collect the seed in habit. All the same Pseudolarix occurs at lower elevations, over a broader geographic range in China instead of Japan, and is probably more resistant to hot, wet soil. Maybe someone down south will chime in; it's telling that the NCSU arb. has a large Pseudolarix but not a large Larix.
