Ken you have a contorta pine that's 'Spaan's Dwarf'. I pronounce it like it looks.

Not slow at all Will. Surprisingly quick if you asked me. I think Spaan fell off his rocker at some point!

scotch is what you drink while you look upon your scots pine ..

resin always said that calling a scot a scotch.. will get you a bloody nose.. ok.. my words.. not his.. but thats what he meant .. lol

they are endemic to SCOTland..not scotchland...

ps: look at this years growth.. even without a scale.. is see 8 to 12 inches... but for the species .. which i have seen do 24 or more inches in MI .. this one i would call slow... all things being relative.. and dont get me started on my relatives ....

I just found a 1939 reference to use of the word "Scotch" by a solid Scotsman, a piper who was born in Lochcarron, Rosshire in 1866 and emigrated to Canada in 1902.

"You see there were a lot of Scotch people here who did not know anything about the history of the clans..."

The document is the transcription of an interview done by a local journalist in 1939. The interviewee signed off on the transcript, and does seem to have made a few edits, but the word "Scotch" is not corrected.
