| Hi everyone. I got a great picea pungens specimen tree and planted it in May. Everything has seemed to go well. Now I'm seeing some die back and browning of the needles. This yellowing and browning of the needles is happening at the bottom of the tree.
Any help on what could be going on? more water? just seasonal weather changes. This is in Chicago IL, the front of the house is north facing.

| Appears just to be stress. For watering insert index finger down to 2nd knuckle . If dry soak thoroughly and repeat the process. My real concern is you have planted to close to the house. Do you have the tag from the tree giving its full name. Picea pungens '......'? Dave |

| interior browning is normal.. increased by digging.. transporting .. and planting ... no conifer holds interior needles forever ... 4th pic.. probably stepped on ... remove it next summer.. if it doesnt bud out ... i also think it would benefit with 3 to 5 more feet from the house ... how long has the smaller pungens to the right been there???? .. wish they could switch holes ... man i dont miss suburbia .... lol .. actually.. thats more city than suburbia .... ken |

| Thanks for the response Dave and Ken. I just found the tag, and I was mistaken. It is Picea glauca 'Pendula. I was deciding between a few trees and got them mentally mixed up. The smaller pungens was just planted 2 weeks ago With the new tree info, am I still too close to the house? and you are right Ken, it's in the city proper. best |

| You'll want it at least 3 feet (4 would be better) from the edge of the gutter. See a larger one at the link. tj |
