picea pungens newly planted

Hi everyone. I got a great picea pungens specimen tree and planted it in May. Everything has seemed to go well. Now I'm seeing some die back and browning of the needles. This yellowing and browning of the needles is happening at the bottom of the tree.

Any help on what could be going on? more water? just seasonal weather changes.

This is in Chicago IL, the front of the house is north facing.

Thanks
