Rabbits usually leave my conifers alone until the snow flies, so I don't think its them. Squirrels, on the other hand, seem to gnaw just to tick me off.

in my experience.. the fuzzy rat with the big tail.. is the culprit who usually nips things off.. doesnt like the taste.. and leaves them there ...

squirrels are too attention deficit.. to bother with small things.. they rather drop branches from height.. while making nests ...
