Weekend discovery in the old park

The first question - whether it is Picea orientalis? I still am not so skilled:) But for me it seemed. By feel, shoots were smooth and needles was shiny and dull. I certainly wrong - so I ask you for advice:))

I saw some interesting variegation at tree branches - not at all. Very pronounced and bright yellow-white. And it's autumn! Branches did not look sick .... or withered. And I know that in this old park planted species only, not the varieties.

thats how they are found ...

now figure out who to send it to.. for grafting.. presuming you can not do it yourself ...

In the spring I will teach to graft:) But this I entrust my teacher... if it is something valuable ...how I feel.

It's valuable and it's Picea orientalis. Send to Edwin, Clement, Henk. The more people, the better. It's interesting to see so much variegation but at different branches, and all so close together. Who knows how each will grow??? That is to be determined.....

Send from same branches, same material to same teacher, Ireena. Label such as: (branch #1) next (branch #2) next (branch #3) and so on.

Maybe it's the variety? But then variegation would be on the whole tree. The bright shoots are at a number of branches, but not the entire tree. Closer to the top of all the needles are green.

These 3 trees are old - I think 20 -25 years. Growing conditions was bad and trees are slightly ugly:))

O.K. I see now much better. Cut the color shoots only for grafting (no green at your cuts) and send to Edwin, Clement, Henk.

Ask them now when each will be ready. I assume all three will be grafting mid-Feb. Clement do grafts later; Henk & Edwin graft all of December thru March; however you should still ask, of course.

I too like 'Golden Egg'. It looks to the future with this name.

We had a Brewer spruce with similar look on a lower portion of the tree. Turned out the light-colored new growth was affected by rust.

Last photo...several shoots are looking or have turned brown???

I am thinking this tree has issues.

Looks like rust disease to me too - as well as the yellow shoots, there are also several similar-sized dead shoots, which I'd guess were last year's yellow shoots. Check out Chrysomyxa abietis, I'd suspect that's the cause.
