I'm afraid it's still quite small but the colour is pretty intense. Looking forward to its further development.
Perhaps other people have larger ones to show.

    Ken,

Your plant must now be a good size. A lovely cultivar.

    not really that big ...

as i noted.. lacking some vigor as its in too much shade ...

which is fine for where it is ...

it does hold its color a bit longer ...

people keep asking for results in shaded locations.. and i often mention i have some pungens in full shade ...

they do not die ... they simply dont grow to annual growth rate expectations ...

but the pungens dont elongated like my concolor in full shade ... most likely .. we are seeing its annual growth spurt in this pic ... what.. 3 to 4 inches????

to sum it up ... its weirder.. than normal.. for its location ....

Ken, that pic is going on 9 years old. I feel like you're living in the past. Get an updated pic!

here is a pic from 2011 .... june 3rd to be exact ... looks like the same annual growth rate ... eh????

what fascinates me on this pic... besides sunshine.. is how all the empty spaces filled in behind.. looking deep into the pic ...

and the answer to the next question is.... early gold... lol ....

uh oh ... will/whaas ... might be looking for an invite to the weirder the better club.. lol ... and that might be against every fiber of his being ... lol ....

thx bob f ... ever notice.. a lot of these things get really ugly in old age.. lol ... [except me.. i am getter more beautiful ]

and i notice.. like mine.. even ginormo-butt.. seems to be struggling with leader dominance ... i wonder how proactive the owner has been to get it that upright .... looking at the scope of that bed.. it must be an arb???

It's at the Bickelhaupt right next to a large Picea pungens 'Offutt' which I believe to be the same as 'Straw'. I just have to figure which name came first. I suspect it was 'Offutt'.

Since last spring I had the same thoughts that the 'Straw' is the same one as 'Offutt', both have the same special characteristics at the same time...

'Offutt' has 2 t's in the name. He was a nurseryman who lived near Joe Stupka. Joe gave this plant to the Bickelhaupt under that name. 'Straw' originated with Stupka but I don't know who put that actual name on it. That is an additional reason for thinking they are the same plant. I don't know if Joe intended 'Offutt' to be the name or if he was just listing the origin when he donated it.
Here is a picture of the old plant.

The same story goes for Abies fraseri 'Flynn's Flash' and 'Old Glory', 2 names for one conifer.
I still don't know who found it and which name was given to it originaly...

Jay, now you mentioned this, it confused me as well :0)
I just changed one of these names...

I'll tell you one thing, I can't wait for my 'Straw' to get that large. Probably one of my top 10 intermediate growing conifers.
