I got my books last week as well. I'm looking forward to seeing an addendum published which corrects the mistakes. I've only been working with this immense, yet magnficient publication for a short time, but have already seen several errors.

Not bad however considering the books cover 6000 cultivars. Forget the price. I still consider this to be an invaluable asset for anybody who wanders this website.

Many errors unfortunately, lot of text just been lifted from other publications, but I guess that's par for the course with such a massive undertaking as this is ...still worth having if only for the superb photographs .

$237.00 U. S. + shipping for a book with many errors with information from other sources added in.

    Not going to happen.

Who cares about pictures. You can look these up on line.

Had it been an American publication Dave, you might have been a bit more enthusiastic ;o)

"Had it been an American publication Dave, you might have been a bit more enthusiastic ;o)"

Not necessarily. I've seen plenty of terrible American gardening books...and I suspect that's probably Dave's opinion as well.
(not that I'm saying this is terrible)

"but I guess that's par for the course with such a massive undertaking as this is"
No one has lodged these complaints against Conifers Around the World. Maybe we should stick to Hungarian gardening books only?

    bluespruce53,

I have no problem where it is published.

I have high admiration for the RHS.

It was not even a consideration for me not wanting it.

Since its not concise with a fair amount of errors, and I am only getting this from you guys, I decline.

Was only kiddin' with my comment guys ... and yes there are errors, as with any publication of this size ... you wont be able to see many of the conifers listed and photographed in the books online, because you just wont be aware that they even exist :o)

One reason a lot of cultivars are missing is that there are no funds for the annual 'survey' or perusal of the literature, which then captures all of the registered cultivars. Last one was 2009, I think. Add to that the fact that a lot of people don't register cultivars and it's surprising that there aren't more missing!

I got mine last october and it set me back 200 Euros. This 'ate' my plant budget for this autumn, but I don't regret buying this wonderful encyclopedia, even if it is "only" 99.9% perfect.I guess it will be a long time before we see anything comparable being published again in print,as this sort of undertaking is always risky, given the highly specialised subject .It would be interesting to know how many copies have been printed; when sold out,the price will probably double overnight! Well done Aris Auders and Derek Spicer and also the RHS,of course!.T.
