For some years the Seattle arboretum has had a planting right in the visitor center parking lot. Otherwise the biggest, most interesting specimen I have seen was at Heronswood (also in the parking lot). In recent years this collection has only been open to the public at certain times, with the property having sold recently - I don't know what the current access situation is.

California collections I am mostly drawing a blank on, for this species. The highest concentration of rare species conifers I have seen personally - probably the best publicly accessible collection in North America - is at Humboldt State University, mostly in the vicinity of the Botany greenhouse (and inside it). There are a few Alerce there, along with dozens of other such creatures. Unless a recent effort to get signs on the outdoor plantings was successful - not a sure thing, due to university politics - you may have to try to get a copy of the planting maps in order to know what you are likely to be looking at. The Botany technician kindly made photocopies of the pages of planting records for us when we were there.

Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden also has one but it is small. Have not been to UC Berkeley garden for many years, am not up on current collections (other than what I see on the internet).

We are growing it west of Seattle in Washington at Albers Vista Gardens.
It is quite slow-growing here, but it has a graceful habit when young.
