Any pic of the cones?

From the crown shape I suspect it might be Pinus ÃÂ schwerinii (P. wallichiana ÃÂ P. strobus).

Could be? It was to dark to get good pics especially with phone camera....cones appeared to be around 20 cm/8" long but the tree is probably stressed from lack of water as the curbing diverts potential moisture.

Ooof! Bit blurry! But yep, does look rather like P. x schwerinii

Looks like a decent-enough root zone area for it, but a problem might be soil compaction from foot traffic or the previous construction activity.

Not sure, but it does look like the hybrids I've seen (the drooping needles on pure wallichiana are very distinct). Regardless, it's a very handsome tree w/a nice form, tho Georgia (except for high elevations) must be a pretty hot climate for it.

Interesting that cone production on the parking lot side might be from heat-stress, and the opposite side looks a bit more lush w/no cones.

I had a chance to make more pics yesterday. On closer obversation I would estimate some of the cones are at least 10" long.

You can't beat those needles. I have a Pinus wallichiana 'Frosty'.

Did look hybrid at the start, turned out to be later.

I checked on the "White Pine" yesterday and it has produced a large crop of cones this year. Surely they want get much larger as the largest cones I could reach were 28 and 29 cm in length, excluding stems.

I have pure P wallichiana that came thru the winter unscathed. It's not firm evidence, but it seems perfectly hardy in z6, which was a question.

The emerging candles and lengthening needles are the most elegant & softest imaginable.
