IIRC, it survived the winter of 2002/2003, which had snowcover from early Dec thru late March. The yr after that, it was thoroughly dead of course.

Probably A. columnaris ('Cook pine'), not NIP. But still, anything below upper 20s damages these and below 20 and they die. It is interesting here that I know of only 1 in town and it is in a courtyard on campus - a warm microclimate. If you drive 30 mins east of here, you can find them in Palatka, FL on the St. Johns River where the influence of the Gulf Stream becomes evident. West of here and there are some on Cedar Key in the gulf, but inland it is too cold and they can't be found (except the one in the courtyard).
