It looks like you are listing Sunset Zone 14 in your byline here, are therefore aware of their climate zoning system. Maybe you can find out what you want to know by looking in the Western Garden Book or on the Sunset Publishing web site to see if they list Caucasian spruce for Zone 14.

But would it work for that specific cultivar? Aureospicata?

Dandy I'm not as hot as you are (I'm in Petaluma) but I do have one and it is more or less in full sun (it's shaded a bit in the morning) and has never burned. My observations here are that I need to make sure not to underwater conifers in their first 2-3 years and let them develop enough of a root system to deal with the lack of summer moisture. Our air is so dry that they only get moisture through their roots. Sacramento gets much hotter than we do so I would think that you'd need to water much more than I do.
