Four years of Abies nordmanniana 'Golden Spreader'

A great, multi-season conifer, this medium dwarf grows about 2-4 inches a year(5-10 cm) and eventually forms a leader and turns into a squat pyramid. The gold color comes on strong in colder weather, like many similar conifers and this color stays well into early Spring here in the Pacific Northwest. It does have a tendency to burn, especially in full sun or very hot/tough climates. One good way to handle that is to plant is near or under a deciduous shade tree so that in Summer it receives some protection and then in Winter, the sun glows on the plant as the leaves fall.

2010 - Early Summer: Note the signs of light needle burn on older needles and the multi-colored look.
