Okay, late enough. We are all thinking pointilism, right? I was going to show off how much I remember from all my college art courses (there is so bloody little that I remember that I am thrilled when anything pops up) and mention the name of the artist and painting, but just saw that both are on the picture you posted. Ha-silly me! That'll teach me not to be so smug!

Yes, indeed, it is pointillism. I was going to make the name of the artist part of the question, Cynthia, but then there it was on the picture. You get honor points for knowing it.

I read that the idea behind pointillism is that colors are thought to be more vibrant if they are not mixed, but placed side by side so that the eye mixes them. So, rather than mix cadmium yellow and thalo blue to make a green, the artist would put the yellow and green dots side by side and the eye would still see green, but somehow a better green. Sounds unlikely to me, but what do I know? Not much, and that's a fact.
