Help with a Math Question?

My cousin's daughter posted this on Facebook....I get the same answer....can anyone help, and explain the process?

What is the answer to: 3X4-2X2+2(6-2)=?? Broken down we got: 12-4+8 The final answer we got was 12-12=0, but being told that is wrong.

12 - 4 + 8
Start with the first two numbers 12 - 4
12 - 4 = 8
Now add the second 8 and get 8 + 8 = 16

That is why I don't do math trivia on Saturdays! We have our own resident genius here. :)

3x4-2x2+2(6-2)
(6-2)=4
3x4=12
2x2=4
2(4)=8
12-4=8
8+8=16

The order of operations says to do parentheses first
Then do multiplication and/or division
Then addition or subtraction
