OK, ribbit, ribbit, let's have another mind-expanding froggy-type question.

Why would anyone want to "milk" the Colorado River Toad?

I have heard of fools who lick toads to get high, makes you wonder who first tried that but when you think of it who would have first thought of eating a lobster?

RE: Weekend Trivia - Sunday

Because it makes a wonderful cottage cheese?

I can imagine some fools doing anything to get high.

From what I can gather from the answers so far my guess is these toads secrete a substance when ingested will make some &#^% @SS get high.

My guess is the getting-high thing too, but I didn't think it was specific to that toad. However, you did put "mind-expanding" in the question, so maybe that is it after all.

ooh, good thinking stagerat! I'll agree.

I was going to guess at making an anti-venom, but I think I will go with stage rat and cyn427. I personally would never touch a toad, but somebody might. I think it is to get high.

Ewwwww, Cur tried to eat a toad once, made him sicker than a dog. We were riding on the golf cart, Cur hanging over the side going 'Bleaugh.' I had never actually seen what 'sicker than a dog' really meant.

Oh, what? Sorry. I don't know why toads are milked. Do they have little machines for that?

Nell, rotflol!!!! And why would someone want to lick/kiss something that ugly, unless they had heard the Prince rumor!!
Mora - some of those 'pretty' frogs can kill you~~~so, why does Pattioh think it might make good cottage cheese????

Hmmmmm = yes, all toads give off a 'get away from me' liquid; maybe some of those liquids could 'expand your mind'.

Yes, you smarties have it. The toad secretes a venom that has a hallucinogenic substance in it. The toad is milked by stroking it under its chin, or otherwise annoying it, and the venom is secreted on its back. It is collected, dried and smoked by people a bit crazier than you or me. Quite a few sources claim the toad licking thing is just a persistent rumor, so who knows?

for Martha, Sue, Annette, Stagerat, Cynthia, Janie, and Nancy.

Sorry, no toad cheese, Patti, or little milking machines, Nell, that I know of. Those would have made an even wackier story.

Thanks for entertaining me this weekend.
