Weekend Trivia -- Sunday

| At the same time that Henry Shrapnel invented the exploding cannon shell, (1800) a scientist in Italy was inventing a much more peaceful device that would become ubiquitous by the twentieth century. It's hard to imagine modern life without this device. I used one this morning already, and I'm sure that none of us is likely to get through the day without using one or more of them. The device doesn't bear the scientist's name, exactly, but pretty close.
His first name was Alessandro. What was his last name?

| I am sipping a nice strong cup of coffee, anticipating going outside to finish cleaning up the veg garden. In avoidance!! I would say it might be a rhyming thing, right TM?? Nancy. |

| So, here I am going through everything I use in the morning and adding Italian endings to each word, and I actually think I came up with it. I got to my toothbrush and giggled to myself as I thought of bruschetta (which made me hungry). Suddenly, like a flash (teehee), I think I got it. Will wait to see if others are as shocked and recharged by this knowledge as I am!!! Cynthia |

BOLT(A) out of the blue? I get it. I've often said VOLT out the blue. so VOLTA (can't be electrity (found earlier) so it must be battery) Libby |

| Yes, it was Alessandro Volta, who invented the electric battery was honored for his trouble by the term volt. Did you know that AAA, AA, C, and D batteries all have the same voltage, in spite of the size difference? Yup, it's 1.5 volts. Did you know that technically, those are not batteries, but cells? To have a battery, you have to have more than one cell. If you take a 9 volt battery apart, you will find six little cells inside, so it is a true battery. Each cell is 1.5 volts. That's how it comes up with 9 volts. I'm sure you would like me to prattle on, but it's star time. Who knew the answer? Cynthia and Libby for sure. Annette guessed it too. Nancy, I'm kinda confused by your answers. Did you know it? for everyone who knew it.
Thanks for playing trivia, my friends. ThinMan |
