Weekend Trivia -- Saturday

| Happy Weekend, dear cottagers. We are still escaping snow and ice here in northern Michigan, and a big yippee for that. I hope you all are as lucky. Speaking of ice, here is today's trivia.
Two Swiss skaters, Werner Groebli and Hans Rudolf Mauch, came to the U.S. in 1937 and joined the Ice Follies as a comedy team who skated in Lederhosen. They became very popular, and even appeared in films in the 1940s. Their names became household terms and to this day are part of English slang, referring to a pair of people who are always seen together. (I may have just made this too easy.)
You say you’ve never heard of Groebli and Mauch? Probably not, but you would almost certainly recognize them as _________ and ____________. Do you know those names?

Yes, you DID just make this one too easy, TMan, as googling of my GUESS just confirmed to me. However, I never knew there was a real couple named _____ and ____, so thanks for the interesting trivia! Sorry to hear of your icy weather, gosh it's been a BEAUTIFUL November here so far! Patti |

| OOhh, I might know this. Not from the skaters, but we had a pair of friends we named this.... is it f&f?? Gorgeous day here - about 10c and sunny - light wind. I guess I might finally get the garden cleaned up!! Nancy. |

Good Morning, I think I know this one but never knew the history. I'm still reeling today from last night's Olympic torch Relay which took place here in Lunenburg. I have never seen so many people in town nor so many police cars. The torch even hitched a ride on a scallop dragger!Martha |

| Ha, this one I'm pretty sure I know, rhymes with ... & .... without the ... Annette |

| Patti - I was trying to say, but not very well, that we don't have any ice or snow so far, but thanks for your sympathy anyway. I'll save it until I need it -- maybe next week. Actually it is partly sunny today and around 50 F, the same as Nancy, so I have no complaints. Yippee! Martha, that must have been a sight to behold - a once in a lifetime thing for you all in Lunenburg. TM |

| I know this one too (F&F) but it's certainly American and not something I've heard of recently. Libby.......who keeps telling herself 'we really need this rain'. |

| I do know this, but I don't know how to share a clue about them. Rhymes with 't_ _ _ k' and 't_ _ _ k'. I wish I had got to see them skate in person. It has rained here for 2 days and 3 nights. The ditches are overflowing. I hope we don't have any freezes, it would be ice skaters heaven! |

| I was thinking "Laurel and Hardy" "dumb and dumber," "click and clack, and then I got the hints! I got close on my own, though. |

| Yes Tman, it was as if a UFO landed on the waterfront complete with huge stage and entertainment, took us all by surprise although with all the usual advertising and bric-a-brac! |

| OOOps!!! one too many dots after the & in my smarty pants comparison. Is anyone else having trouble getting threads to open up, half the time I'm getting blank pages or they open very zzzzzz slowly. Annette |

| As someone who grew up on the ice and saw one of this pair when I was a child, I absolutely know this. They were truly the funniest pair ever and amazingly talented skaters, but I only had eyes for the debonair Richard Dwyer and his elegant skating! These two were copied, but no one ever did it as well. |

| Stage Rat - like the Tappitt Brothers - Click and Clack, yes, thought of that afterwards!!!! Nancy. |

| All that comes to mind is 'two peas in a pod' and that definitely doesn't fit .... Do you ever get accustomed to the snow? Or glad to see it? Sometimes, I wish we got more cold weather than we do - it sure helps diminish the bug population. |

Kinda rhymes with Tic & Tac without the Toe Frick and Frack put on a great show. Annette |
RE: Weekend Trivia -- Saturday
