Weekend Trivia -- Saturday

Good morning and happy weekend, dear cottagers. Nasty fall has temporarily left ThinMan Acres and pretty fall is back, though minus the leaves. The ice from two nights ago has even melted in the bird bath. I'll need to go out and soak up some sunshine.

In all the excitement of Witch Weekend here in the trivia department a week ago, many of you no doubt missed the big news story of October 31st. At midnight on that day, all McDonald’s restaurants in a certain small country ceased operations for good, due to the financial crisis that has been bad for many countries, but was especially bad in this one. The owner of all three restaurants said he will continue to operate them, but the golden arches will be gone.

This is the country’s coat of arms:

Can you guess what country we are talking about?

ThinMan

When it clicks it clicks LOL. Not too much ice around here yet, it still in the liquid form. Sue is your garden as saturated as mine is right now, oh well at least we don't have to shovel it.

Yeh, everything is drowned here. Did manage to get all my plants dug up before this downpour. And I have about 1/3 of the back flower bed dug up. Most of the plants went to new homes.

Must be an island and the flag on the image looks like that of a particular Scandanavian country, so I have a guess, but don't know enough to figure out how the other symbols fit in. I will keep thinking, TM.

Trivia-HA!

Why don't I pay more attention to the clues that Annette and Sue picked up on??? I am thinking way too much-got there, but it should have been so much more obvious to me!

I heard about this. I sure didn't know this was their coat of arms. I wonder what it means.

No ice here either, not even slushy.

Well, thanks to Sue and Annette, I too get it!! lol. Amazing that ice can stay, with all that thermal heat!!

It's about 7c here. Sunny but windy. I should go out and work. I should have gotten up earlier. Sigh. Playing catch-up, as usual.

Nancy.

Good morning!

We haven't had any ice or frost yet, although we picked all the tomatoes a month ago when the first frost was coming everywhere else. No one makes a customized weather prediction for the lakefront. It's maybe 15 degrees here, did I convert right? It's 60!

I know the answer, from TM's sneaky clue, from lots of NPR news reports in the past months, from the country size, and from what those folks are standing on.

I have always wanted to go there. My son worked there a few years aga and said it was a very nice land, M

and said it was a very nice land

Good one, Martha.

It's wet here too but I enjoyed the Royal visit.

Not surprised because of that country's collapsed banks. BBC news alway keeps me updated.

I think we all know the answer.

Evening

I think that the answer is ICELAND. RIGHT...

Sue

 o
RE: Weekend Trivia -- Saturday

I think you are right, Sue...and everyone else.

 o
RE: Weekend Trivia -- Saturday

Yes indeedy, the answer is Iceland. Apparently the cost of buying genuine McDonald's supplies from the continent became too expensive with the fall of the Icelandic krona. The owner of the restaurants will be able to buy locally once they are no longer McDonald's and thinks he can stay in business that way.

for Sue, Annette, Cynthia, Janie, Nancy, Stagerat, Martha, and Libby.

Isn't it ironic that Iceland is actually not icy, and Greenland is?

TM

Here's hoping he's successful!

Thanks TM-now i will try to look up the symbolism of the animals on the coat of arms!
