great color on the oriole!

I miss Oreole's and red winged blackbirds. How I love the call of the red wing blackbird. But you know, I can't remember the oreole's call :(

Great to see - Girlgroupgirl I like red winged blackbirds too but they dive bomb me at work.

Hosta House, that's funny! I never knew redwing blackbirds to dive bomb. We had them mostly at my grandmas, in the marshes and along the waterside in the cat tails.

We have lots of Red Wing Blackbirds at the feeders.

The Oriole has stayed so I put out a dish of grape jelly yesterday.

I am worried our cats who spend a lot of time on the porch may be a problem. Last year they were just kittens and were confined to the milk parlor. They were (4 of them) l year old April 15.

We don't have Orioles out here, sad to say, but we do have Redwings. They have been singing their hearts out lately, calling for possible mates. One male perches on top of the power pole out back every morning and evening to let me know that the birdfeeder is empty. :) He follows me around all day, he and the Mockingbird, chirping and serenading me. I just love their songs.
Pesticides and herbicides used by farmers and ranchers are killing off our Meadowlarks and our state bird, the Scissortail. They are great insects eaters. Scissortails eat millions of flying insects. Mores the pity for the carelessness of humans.

Even though the books say we don't have them, we do have Scissortails here. I didn't know that was Oklahoma's state bird.
