What is your secret? I planted Casa Blanka and Monte Negro lilies in raised beds last year and they have not done very well. The leaves started turning yellow before the blooms opened and then they fell off. I fertilized with horse manure and Miracle Grow and they were in full sun.

I love them I just can't grow them.

Yours are so healthy looking.

Foxesearth - Here is a slightly outdated photo of my fence boder. Not much room for a big garden; and I have only been taking this seriously for the last couple years. I will probably post some others when a few more start blooming (late here in MN).

Faye - Not many secrets. I do have these in a spot that allows for the "feet in shade" that lilies like. The top and bottom photo are next to a big peony bush that shades the bottom for most of the day. The middle ones are obviously behind the day lily that gives their "feet" lots of shade. We've also had a cool sunny year here so far that has been good as long as I keep up with watering. I think that helps. I also avoid Miracle Grow unless I'm putting it on annuals. I opt for really enhancing the soil when I plant with organic manure / compost. I've got some Casa Blanca too; that don't look as healthy as these; but they also have a more "hot" spot.

You make me want to add more to my own gardens. Over the years, mine have declined and I miss them.
