BANANAS!

I am really surprised that they are surviving this heat and drought.

They are not like the ones you buy in the store. I am not sure what verity these are. But the ones I grew up with in south TX were not edible. We did use them for banana nut bread.

Oooo..oooo! (throws hand in the air) I know this too. It's a banana alright. Just this past weekend I visited the conservatory of the local Agricultural College and there was a huge banana plant. It had small green bananas dripping all the way down the stem at the top of that big reddish brown bloom that almost touched the floor. A lady playing the harp for this garden open house just happened to have been a past professor of botany at the college and told a man standing nearby to lift one of the petals of the bloom. He did, and there were teeny bananas coming on under there. All were the inedible variety.

It sure had me stumped!
