I am so impressed! People grow them in this area, especially over in the next county. It's my understanding that they like a damp place. Is that true? They sure give a tropical look to a garden.

The only home-grown banana I ever ate was grown in a greenhouse near Atlanta. It was incredibly sweet and good.

Normally they are grown in the tropics. There are many varieties and I have no clue which this is.
I did read that as the stalk grows, the blooms lower down will not produce, as they are male blooms.

This tree has survived this summers drought and 59 days of triple digit heat.
It has been at least 55 years since I ate a home grown and they weren't that good. Mother used them to make bread.

This tree has pups around the bottom. Want me to send you one? They will freeze and come back from the rhizome.
