Malva sylvestris and African blue basil plants

| I have a malva sylvestris (not sure if it is also called tall mallow) in my front yard at my home in northern Virginia on the Eastern Shore. I'm surprised that it's still green at this time of year. But it is getting pretty leggy, although I am trying to hold it up with a garden stake. Should I cut it back and will it still flower this year if I do?
Also, I grew some African blue basil last year and it got big and healthy. I'm not sure if it will come back this year. Is it a perennial in the northern Virginia area? Can I pull it out or would I be killing it?
Thanks! |

Mary, I'll take a stab at the question about your malva.i have this also in my garden, but the stalk died for the winter and the plant at the base is still green. So I would imagine its ok to cut the stalk, so it'll regrow a new one. I do not grow basil, so I am so sorry I can't help you there!!! |
