fig leaf hollyhocks in SF Bay area?

I couldn't find a forum on hollyhocks, so trying here. I have grown some ordinary hollyhocks over the years. I just found some "fig leaf" hollyhocks in a catalogue, and they look intriguing. It says they grow to zone 9, but I looked them up and it said they were native to Siberia!

So, my question is, does anyone grow these in No Cal? Or in any other Mediterranean climate? Just want to find out if they do OK in our cool wet Winter (usually - not this year!), hot dry Summer/Fall climate. Thanks very much -

Jackie, sorry no-one could answer this for you here, I'm not familiar with this particular Hollyhock so can't help you out. Try the Perennial forum, I'm sure somewhere there will be able to give you the information you're looking for.

Thanks Annette - I solved the problem by calling a really good local nursery we have here called "Annie's Annuals" - they carried three kinds of fig leaf hollyhocks, so I bought all three of them (arrived in two days!) and planted them - we will now see if they like it here!

Jackie, that should have been someone not somewhere, my fingers seem to have a mind of their own at times, well that's as good an excuse as any LOL. Glad you found some, I for one would love to see pictures when yours bloom.

I grow them in St. Pete Fl with amazing results. Ive been crossing them and other hollyhocks for 15 years.
