Seeded mats

What's your experience with them? I see some in a catalog that advertise "two 10"W by 10'L mats, each with over 2000 seeds of at least 18 varieties for blooms all summer". I have nearly that size of space along a picket fence. They claim the mats act as a weed barrier too.

Yesterday I bought several packs of an "all season color mix" which is suppose to include 17 varieties of annual cut flowers. I mentioned to a fellow seed shopper beside me that I had tried a wildflower mix before but never an annual mix and one reason is I think it would be hard to keep weeded in the early germination period. How could you tell weed from flower until the weeds got out of control? Unless of course you could recognize the 17 indiv. variety of seedlings. Would the seed mat be a good alternative? Again, anyone try these mats before? Did you get good germination? mostly all of one type of flower or a good variety?
