Two of my neighbors have the Japanese magnolias. One blooms earlier than the other. I enjoy seeing them every year. The second is almost done.

That one is a "Jane Magnolia".
I have one also and would like two more. The buds on mine are just beginning to swell. Can't wait!
Your tree is bigger and has many more and bigger blooms than mine. Mine is a young tree, but puts on quite a show in Spring, and the fragrance is divine. Yours is unreal, it's so stunning!
I would like to have one Southern Magnolia - just one as a stately specimen tree in the back.

It's lovely, I have two deciduous Magnolias one a star magnolia (white) still in tight bud and a saucer magnolia (pink). The star is now a small tree, the saucer I might take out. Every year it seem just when the flowers are about to open it gets hit by heavy rain or a nasty frost, totally spoils the flowers.

What picks me is there's a huge white flowering saucer just down the street from us that puts on a magnificent show every year, I'll see if I can get a picture of it when it blooms.

I had a love/ hate relationship with a fully mature saucer magnolia in the front of my house in Maryland. Early good weather would seduce it into bloom, but a sudden return to normal weather would freeze all those lovely blooms. If I was lucky, it looked good for a week. I also had 14 lawn and leaf bags full of petals to rake up every year. Made the flagstones very slippery. Dumped them behind the boxwoods to compost, but still, a chore!

Here's a picture of that big Magnolia a few blocks down the road from me that I mentioned earlier, this Magnolia is huge, don't know how old it is, any guesses.
