I'm watching the news right now. Did I hear the all-clear siren was sounded for Hawaii?????

Apparently from what we've heard Hawaii is alright, we're on the east coast of Vancouver Island so don't expect to be affected. We just watched the tsunami coming ashore in Japan, such a heartbreaking thing to see.

I'm very worried about Vancouver. I also have family on Vancouver Island, and we have so many friends in the city and up the coast.
This is so worrying.
One of my girlfriends in Tokyo is OK (thank-you Facebook). She lost an entire family many years ago in an earthquake and had to start life all over in the city. She's managed remarkably well but this must be so horrifying for her (and everyone, of course).

GGG, Vancouver hasn't any warnings up, we're just across the straight from Vancouver and don't expect anything happening here either. DH just heard there was a six inch rise in water at Winter Harbour on the north end, east side of Vancouver island. The north coast of the mainland and Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) and has some warnings posted, will let you know if anything unexpected happens.

It was surreal watching it on the news. God bless all those affected. It was quite a show south of us in Santa Cruz.

Being on the east coast and a third of the way up the island we weren't affected at all, I think Tofino and Port Alberni on the west side were a little wary tho, haven't heard if it caused any significant damage in those places, might be more on the news tonight.

glad everyone's safe. That was so devastating I'm heartsick over what's happening. I have to understand that this is nature at it's worst, that it's natural but still quite terrifying. Unfortunately we need to expect there would be more quakes to come.. not in Japan but somewhere else around the pacific plate.

It's such a heartbreaking thing to watch unfold and it's not over yet. We can all help albeit in a small way by donating what we can to the red cross or other agency dealing with this catastrophe. No matter how small they may be these donations do add up so lets dig into our pockets and give what we can.

They closed all the beaches here in so. Cal for Friday, but nothing happened. We weren't really expecting it to hit, but of course precautions were taken. It may be a while yet before we fall into the ocean :)
