poor daffodills

I planted some daffodills about 3 years ago. They come up every year but have not multiplied.I don't remember what kind they are but the package they were in said they were heavy multipilers. What could be wrong with them? They are not overcrowded with other plants.

Daffodils are usually planted 6 to 8 inches deep, planted shallower they will multiply faster but won't have as many flowers.

depth depends on your zone and soil, too, right? I planted mine pretty shallow, but I have really heavy poorly draining soil and I don't want them to rot.
