Those are pink Heleniums.
They are big in the UK and Europe.
Wish I could find seeds for them here in Oklahoma!

They would grow very well for you in Southern California.
They come in many colors and color combinations. I just love them.

Thanks Annie, I'll check that out. The other option I found was Tanacetum coccineum 'Brenda' a pink painted daisy, but I've never grown painted daisy to know what they look like...Deana

Being they are flowering with lupins...my guess is painted daisy. They both bloom at the same time where I live.

They are not Heleniums, imo, since those don't come in pink. I think they are probably Chrysanthemum coccineum aka painted daisy as flora2b suggests.

Perhaps they are Painted Daisies, since Heleniums don't appear to come in pink or bloom when the Lupines bloom. ;)

Painted daisy blooms early. My 2011 garden notes show winter sown plants bloomed the last week of May + first two weeks of June. Also according to my notes, lupine bloomed May 17-June 5 last year. It's my understanding helenium blooms late in the season.

All the flowers in the picture would be June bloomers in the UK. Although some Heleniums start that early, the peak flowering is in August - October. Tanacetum coccineum and Chrysanthemum coccineum refer to the same plant, also known in common parlance as Pyrethrums. In the UK 'Painted daisy' refers to Chrysanthemum carinatum, for which it seems quite apt, based on the appearance of the flowers.
