Photographing Pulmonaria

I decided to try taking a couple of photos of my pulmonarias before they're totally spent--they've been blooming their hearts out for more than a month now. But for some reason, the color in the photos is ridiculously off, way brighter than they are in reality. Oddly enough, my boyfriend's camera does the same thing. I've heard of red roses not photographing well, but this is on the opposite side of the spectrum...

Has anybody else noticed the same thing? I wonder if maybe pulmonaria is really bright in the UV spectrum, and our cameras just don't do a good job of distinguishing between the visible and invisible spectrum.

I tried photoshopping one of the flowers to look more like what the actual color is:
