Beautiful!! Peonies and lilacs are two things i don't have that i really should get. May have to start shopping!

I bought a peony Sarah Bernhart which was in a little bag of peat, it was just a root I guess. I even moved it after a couple years of not doing much. This is it's second year in the new location (more sun) and it is doing quite well, lots of blooms right now. I just bought another one (same little package which doesn't look like it would grow at all) and planted it nearby. It's a white one, don't remember the name. I'm in 7b so I'm quite excited it's doing well.

Lovely blooms, Mantis. I love the last one. I have never grown lilacs or peonies. I didn't even realize peonies could be grown in the south.

I also have lilac, though a different kind, a very common one but pretty and hardy (darn the powedery mildew in July, though it doesn't seem to bother the plant overall)... but the combo of early spring heat, then a few frost/freezes seems to have done it in for blooming this year. Though it's warm now this week maybe it will rally a burst at the end here (it's an early bloomer usually).

I planted a dozen peonies from bare root in a great buy last year -- this year they are finally coming up, and I can't wait until next year (or maybe the one after) to see what they bloom!

They are all different, some have reddish foliage (at least at this stage), and different habits... A bit of a gamble but I can move whatever doesn't thrill me, I hope (tho I don't know how they do with transplanting).
