Dahlias - how many flowering stalks?

I saw some Dahlia rhizomes today, 5 in a bag, beautiful shades of purple. I've only planted Dahlias once or twice so don't have much experience with them, how many flowering stalks would one expect from one rhizome? Thinking of planting them behind the mailbox instead of zinnias this year. Will five be enough? Staking is required I bet?

they grow several stalks. As for staking - if the kind you got are those tall ones, the answer is yes.

For the moment, take those rhizomes and plant them in containers indoors. transplant outdoors when by June.
