Roseberri, I have not grown Monarda before, but this has been such a strange year, weatherwise, I would suspect that as a problem. But, on the other hand, I sort of go by the guideline, 'survival of the fittest', so if you want plants that you don't have to worry about or fuss with, you go with the plants that survive and perform well in a year like this. Of course, if you have a favorite like Fireball, and have the time to baby it a little and replace it occasionally, why not?

All the bee balm I have is pink but it came back with a vengeance.

I googled it and it looks like it might be more tempermental than most,a few others lost it after one year. My Marshall's Delight and Jacob Kline are fine.Oh well,
