A good wisteria year!

I thought you folk might enjoy these pictures...

It's been a stellar wisteria year here. Both the established Chinese wisteria tree and the young (bloomed for the first time last spring) Japanese wisteria tree have put on a nice show. The Chinese one is starting to fade now as its foliage emerges. The Japanese one started to bloom a couple of days ago. This moring the two are making a nice show together in the wisteria bed:

You can see that there is quite a difference in the growth habit of the two types with respect to how to best display the flowers.

The Chinese one viewed from the front porch last night - you can see all the bronzy new foliage - the flowers start to drop once the foliage starts to come out. But it's still a nice companion to the tree peonies for a day or so....

The wisterias in bloom are a much-looked-forward-to event here!
