Kay- I always spray my hollyhocks with the rose fungicide to control the hollyhock rust. If I forget and don't get to it early enough in the year I get the same rust spots that you show. If I forget to spray the rust gets really bad. The year before last things go so bad all my hollyhocks died.

It is not the same rust as the rust that roses get in dry climates but the same rose fungicides seem to work to control the rust. Not cured though as one needs to keep spraying.

I guess it has to do with the weather as some years the hollyhock rust is really bad and other years not a problem.

Kay/Rita I have the same rust on my Hollyhock I was late spraying the first time.Have sprayed my Tall Phlox, Red Monarda and Roses for rust, powdery mildew and blackspot.Look pretty good now,this cool wet weather will most likely change that. Tomorrows high is 59*.I also use Immunox. Pat

I rotate my fungicides with the roses, I do always spray the tulip tree since it will get a powdery mildew otherwise...same spray, and I will also spray the zinnias with it sometimes. I have a gazillion volunteer zinnias up that self-seeded from last year. I am having to pull some of them up, but, easy to do.

Geez, I never ever have gotten zinnia volunteer seedlings.

Good grief, Rita! Really ? I'll take a couple photos for you tomorrow where I haven't weeded many out. In some places, they are almost as thick as "hair on a dog's back". They are not necessarily true to color, and I'll have to see what form I get, but since I have them for the butterflies, it doesn;t really matter.

The strip I actually planted is quite well, but I may transplant into a few thinner areas.

Your zinnia strip got me to plant more zinnias than ever before this year. If I had the room I would do a long strip of just zinnia garden like you have done. I think it is a great idea. Yes, please take pictures of the seedlings!
