The story of a spruce tree

We came across this picture from this past Christmas, and I wanted to share it. When we planted this spruce tree about 13 years ago it went into immediate shock and lost every single needle. We thought for sure it was dead. There was debate about shovel pruning it that same season, but my rule of thumb is to let anything go through the next gardening season before assesing if it is alive or truly dead. Well, I'm glad we refrained from giving up on it. 13 years later it was a joyous site every night I came home during the holidays. Quintessential New England.

I agree. I was given a crepe myrtle last year I was so surprised last week to see it leafing out.

Thanks everyone. We do love this tree and the story of its survival makes it all that more special to us. This was the first year lights were put on it. I'm sure we'll do it each year now.
