Lilacs

I love lilacs, I remember as a kid about 10 years old, digging up lilacs from my grand mothers house, and planting them at our house. In fact I think some of the one I planted are still there. My dad would not let me dig in the yard, so I had to plant them in the wind break at the edge of the yard.

It's been raining for days now, and when it's not raining it's dreary and cloudy, so I decided to bring some of the spring inside. It's an annual thing for me, I have to have at least one vase of Lilacs in the house!

So beautiful. I LOVE my lilacs. I can't imagine my gardens without them. And the scent....Heaven.

If the stems are scored, they can last a long time as a cut.

Growing plants which bring back memories is one of the things I like about gardening, rather like looking back through old photos for me.

The addition of the tulips and crabapple in harmonious shades is what really makes your bouquet sing for me: complementary colors and contrasting shape.

Thank you everyone! I will have to try to score the stems on the next batch of lilacs I bring in.

I live in a relatively small town of 15,000, and I swear at least half the yards in town have lilacs blooming right now. I love it.

Sigh. I love them, cannot grow them here. Oh yes, I have Miss Kim with her one little pitiful bloom spray but that, Jenny Pat, is lilacs! And may I say that your vase is absolutely beautiful! have a couple of small wall sconce type vases in that pattern that were my mothers, and that is just beautiful. thank you for posting that picture.

Gorgeous pic and lovely lilacs! I must take a new pic of my lilacs. We got them about 10 years ago when at a yard sale while I was perusing the offerings DH was chatting with the older man who owned the property. He offered DH some lilac runners he was planning to remove later that day. We came back and he gave us 6 small plants. They are now well over 6' tall and would have been larger if the deer hadn't 'pruned' them every winter. This is only the second year I've had blooms as now have deer-proof fencing. I know I have 2 different purple colors but the others haven't yet bloomed so not sure if there will be more colors.
