Now the roses are in full bloom!

Wow, what a year! Everything is blooming so early! Actually seems like all at once. Spring blooms as well as early summer blooms almost at the same time.

Took these pictures tonight after work, so not the greatest light as it was very sunny. But thought you might enjoy. Also didn't take many shots in the garden room as we are trying to finish up the painting on the house and ladders are sitting everywhere. Some minimal damage to flowers, but can't be helped. Maybe later this week I can get some good shots when I am not working.

These are the roses on the corner. In full late afternoon sun light, so it was hard to capture the dark orange/red color of the blooms. The whiskey barrel was planted later this evening and the pot sitting on top has disappeared. Sorry about that! But when I down loaded the picture and realized how it looked, it was too dark to take a new one. :-(

Roses along the sidewalk. Just love these guys. They bloom well all summer and no "bare legs". Blooms right to the ground. The color is hard to capture, as the blooms are quite dark when they first open but then lighten. The bush looks almost multi-colored.

Roses on the screened porch. Didn't do a full shot as I had started drastically cutting them back so that we could paint behind them. But...a cardinal nested in the rose, so couldn't do any more cutting back. So now the shape looks horrible, but the canes left sure are putting out the blooms!

Ahhhh- thank you for posting your roses. I missed them. What wonderful shapes your shrubs have- mine go all wonky and bloom at the top. Your garden room is magical.

mary-lu, these are amazing! I havent tried roses yet, but had been thinking I would get some next year. Do you have recommendations for zone 4 and less than full sun (5-6 hrs)?

Thanks everyone! We have really had a chance to enjoy them this year. We have been on vacation and the weather has been wonderful. We have been trying to finish up painting on the house, so have spent many hours out in the yard.

mandolls, I have had very good luck with Easy Elegance series of roses. Also Explorer roses are good for our cold winters. I do almost no winter protection, just leaves blown around the base of the roses. In the pictures above: in the round bed is EE My Girl which has done very well and is in an open area. Also above, the 2 bushes along the sidewalk, is EE Sunrise Sunset. If you are considering a climber I have William Baffin (can be a monster) and usually only blooms in early summer with a few blooms off an on during the summer. But Ramblin' Red is a great climber and blooms most of the summer.(last picture). Hope this helps. I have many others, but these are the ones that stand out. Others that do good, are Champlain, Cuthburt Grant, the Northern Accents roses (Ole, Sven and Lena. It really all depends on what type of rose you are looking for. I have several Knockouts too and they do well and add color. More winter die back on them, but they rebound quite quickly.
