Cardinal Climber or Cypress Vine?

Tom, I think, recently showed some Cardinal Climber in his garden. I have Cypress Vine returning on the little trellis I had last year, pictured here in August, 2008:

Here's both intertwined, blooming in September, 2008 across the highway before the mowers cut them off the right-of-way.

Can you see the subtle differences?

Cypress Vine is more crimson, Cardinal Climber more scarlet; the foliage is different. The hummers and butterflies don't seem to notice the differences.

I've grown both and have found that the cardinal climber isn't as invasive when it reseeds. I also like the larger cut of the foliage. The cypress vine is more fern like.

I see some bindweed in that last picture too. :)

I have some growing in the woods behind the house. The hummers love it too, but it is extremely invasive and reseeds with 100%+ germination.

I haven't purposely grown cypress vine for years, but I still have seedlings popping up in the general area it once grew. Have been tempted to try cardinal vine, but I'm afraid, lol.

Last year I bought a Firecracker vine (Manettia) as an alternative for the hummers.
