Palo Alto, CA: Elizabeth Gamble Public Garden

We did an overnight in Palo Alto (hideous traffic! Don't know how commuters do this without going postal, LOL) and stopped by the Elizabeth Gamble Public Garden. We were a little disappointed that we missed touring the Victoria house; it's only open in the mornings, 9-12 noon, Wed-Sat.

Not a large showy garden, but it makes a lovely little city park oasis!

Garden beds and bench:

Gazebo with vegetable beds in foreground. Crops are harvested for the local food bank:

The bloodgood Japanese maple leaves were stunning backlit by the sunshine:

Two colors of campanula intertwined (I hope this IS campanula? I don't grow it in my own garden so am guessing):

Blue salvia and fire-red Icelandic poppies, which were still hanging on:

I had heard of this shrub but never seen one before. It's a chartreuse smoke tree - Cotinus coggygria 'Golden Spirit':

Last but not least, a 6' tall rabbit topiary! My DH was very impressed:
