Someone on another post asked how our painting is going on the new garage. Well....not so good. Has been so hot and lots of company. So not much painting.

But thought some of you might enjoy some pictures I took this week standing in the doorway of the dormer on the second floor of the garage. This is where next year we will be building a walk out porch. Can't wait!

I am in the beginning stages of my cottage gardens. We got the white picket fences up "finally" and the plants have begun growing...I am hoping it'll look good knowing next year's spring/summer will be better!!

A Room With a View. Remember that movie? Looks wonderful, marylu, like looking out from a European villa onto a garden courtyard.

Very cool, Mary Lu. So, your guests don't know how to hold a paint brush? They never heard of working for their dinner? :-)

Just let us see it when you're all done, OK? We'll be here. Waiting.

Great views, both ways. I do love your courtyard, and the new colour will really enhance the look.

That garden room is just the most beautiful area. You must be very good at designing because I could never have come up with something that pretty. I love the view to the daylily garden too!

I love how your 2 views are completely different. Your courtyard is absolutely gorgeous! The fountain is such a nice focal point and all the brick and stonework is just perfect. What a great design.

What a pretty view of your gardens! And a new garage - whoo hoo! I see some green paint on the house - are you painting the house, too? If so, that's going to be a lovely backdrop for all that gorgeous color!

Mary Lu...Breathtaking as usual. I think overhead views of a garden are among the lovelest. You will never tire of this picture. Your pictures from earlier this week (of your neglected garden - NOT!)were also beautiful. You need to post pictures more often. Thanks for sharing

May Lu, I have been so busy lately I haven't yet had the time to comment on your addition, which is of course, beautiful, as with everything in your home and garden. Keep posting pics of the developments, but it's looking fantastic already as it is.

Hi MaryLu~

I can't remember if the dormer will be a guest room, or what...? In either case, a walk-out will be wonderful, with such a lovely view. Love your beautiful garden and courtyard as always, and the new green paint color I see on the house will be great--green is the new neutral ya know.

Yes, we are painting the house too! And actually I don't know if our colors could be called "neutral" but I think they will look nice on the house as well as the garage. Many of you have mentioned liking the "pinkish" color on the house in the past, but we have never been big fans of it. (the PO painted it that color) We thought now was a good time to change the colors as we had to paint the garage. Here are the colors on the eve of the garage. The 3rd color is actually more of a rust than the red it shows in the picture.

Those are great colors! I really like the way you're using the rusty red color on the window trim and the eaves. Will there be an upstairs room or just a high ceiling in the garage?

I think what becr meant by neutral is that green goes with any color and many folks are finally figuring that out. Mom nature has been telling us that forever. : )

Good luck with your project!

Oh I love the rust red trim with the green! Great combination, that is going to look wonderful when it's finished!

 o
RE: view from someday porch on new garage...

Mary Lu, is this green "Grandma's Green"? I loved that shade, as I loved your "Pump Red" :-)

RE: view from someday porch on new garage...

Diana, we weren't sure about the rust on the window sashes, that is why we tried it as you see in the picture above. After seeing it, we decided that it looked great and gave just that "little extra" that we were trying for.

Eduarda, yup......."grandma green". It was a color we both loved, so decided to switch it from trim to main color on both the house and garage. When we are done there will be no more pink.

Thanks to everyone who said they liked the color combo. It was a real struggle to find colors we like and that also were historical as well. One of our goals with the garage when planning it was to build a garage/carriage house that fit the period of our home. I think/hope we have succeeded. There will be a 2-story, 8x16 porch built off the left side of the garage where you can see the beam built into the side. We will incorporate porch columns, railings and trim to match our other 4 porches on the house.

This is how it looks now, after a day of painting last week.

Lovely! And kuddos to you both on a job well done. That's a lot of work - I know, been there, done that. And it's time to do it again. I'm tired just thinking about it. 8- ‹

So what are you planning on planting around the perimeter? : )
