Showing off my birdhouse and flower bed

I have been wanting a purple birdhouse in my flower bed for a few yrs, but the guys are always so busy, so last week I made this birdhouse and got it painted, then when my husband got home and seen it, he helped me fasten it to a platform (to place birdseed), and trim and mount it to a 4x4,then placed it in my bed. It stands about 6 ft tall.
Excuse the weeds and mess. I have to get new cushions or recover these, just havent gotten around to it. May and June would have been the ideal pic time, as everything was blooming then. I am trying to get more summer and fall blooming things in here now. This bed is about 6 feet deep and about 60 feet long.

Wonderful garden. You should be very proud of yourself. How cool that you built your own birdhouse. |

Thanks everyone. mid tn mama, the platform the house sits on, I plan on putting birdseed in it. The platform is about 14" wide by about 18" deep. and the birdhouse is about a 10"x10". I also planted a morning glory on two sides of it. I know its pretty late, but I hope it will have time to grow up the post. Right now they are about 4" tall. Tammy |

| what a great birdhouse and beautiful garden! have tried to establish some beds at our new house we moved into last fall(new build) but alas late freezes, straight line winds, 2 hail storms, drought and record temps(we have been at 101-107 for over 2 weeks now) have just about done me in. I looked at your page and saw that you were a "retired" nurse due to fibro...me too....hope that one day my yard can look like yours! |

| Yea, I got fibro in late 95. It sure slows one down. I only work in it when I feel up to it. I learned a long time ago, if I overdo i will pay even more later. Thats why my beds are so full of weeds:) And I am sure that weather has been extremely hard to work with. I dont do well in extreme temps either. Very long in the high heat and I feel like I will pass out. |

| Love that purple birdhouse and the gardens are just lovely. Seems like I don't get anything done but routine maintenance...need to try to correct that! |

This bed is only about 1/2 of what I have, lol. We built this house ourselves and have lived in it for almost 30 yrs. My 3 yo grand daughter that lives with me considered all the plants on the ground, her flowers (including the tomatoes) and she loves to water them. She cant wait for the tomoatoes to get red. She picked one green recently, lol. I have a long 20 foot bed in the front that has a few roses, and some overgrown hedges that are coming out soon, with a ttrellis on the end and a climbing rose, another short one around the pond, and another 10 feet long shade bed next to the back of the house, that I have some hosta and bleeding heart. The bleeding are are getting moved, they are too big now. I like to use this bed for cuttings. I need to rearrange things in the 60 foot bed, now that I am getting it filled, but figured it might be best to wait for spring.I tend to just find a bare area and put a plant in. But I would like a more organized look, especially if I can ever get my hubby to haul me in some mulch. Tammy |

| That's a sweet birdhouse and the color is perfect. Lovely gardens, too. Never apologize - we all have gardening downtimes. Good thing or how would we get anything else done. : ) Diana |

becr, my husband just dug a hole about two feet deep, and sunk the pole, tamping the dirt as he went. Didnt bother with cement, since there is really no weight etc. Tammy |

Here is a closer view of the birdhouse. I used popsicle sticks over the roof,(dont know how well they will stay on in weather), and then painted it in shades of gray/white/black to look like slate. I cant wait to see how the morning glory looks climbing the post.

| Lovely garden and photos, Tammy! How nice that your daughter takes a strong interest in the garden. I'm another one with fibromyalgia and weeds. The two seem to go together. :-) Susan |
