July - the overgrown season!

The front garden is in it's overgrown season with purple coneflowers, Phlox 'David' and the big butterfly bush dominating the garden. I really need to dig out a lot of coneflowers next year! 'David' seems to have seeded around abundantly over the past couple of years too.

Lots of deadheading coming up soon! The daisies are badly in need of deadheading - dasisies do not die with dignity unfortunately :-) Daisies are also going to get severely 'weeded out' next spring I think. I'm increasingly moving towards shrubs in the front garden, particularly hydrangeas. So far this summer we've added another White Moth, a The Swan and a Blue Bird (which will be more pink in my conditions.) I think in a year or two the front garden will be mainly flowering trees, shrubs and vines with a few peonies and other tidy perennials.

Shrubs will look great and probably cut down on your maintenance. I'm sure you'll enjoy your mixed border which is what I'm trying to do in the front too. But this is so pretty isn't it? Classic, flowery cottage look. I wish my phlox would seed itself!

It is perfectly wonderful! I have much the same flowers growing in my garden - my phlox seemed to cross pollinate and I have tall ones, short ones, purple ones, white ones and everything in between - I took out a TON this spring and probably really should take more out.

It's delightful summer splendor.

Looks great! I know what you mean about overgrown, mine are still flopping from June and haven't been cut back!

Very pretty, love the combo of pink, purple, and white. Today, despite the heat, we started 'weeding-out' plants in a bed I want to renovate (including daisies going to seed). It's too much work to deadhead so many. There have been times I was soo tempted to just weedwhack them! I'm planning to add more flowering shrubs so maintenance is easier.

All I can say is it looks great, so don't take too much out. I did that and it hasn't looked as good since. Becareful........:) Nice garden.......!!!

Beautiful! This has been a crazy year for coneflowers! The area in front of my deck was just planted last year and the coneflowers were teeny in the fall when I planted them. I think the one must have about forty blooms on it this year.
