I am in zone 7b and I sow the seeds from fall through spring (as long as the ground isn't frozen).

If you are planting the annual Bachelors Buttons, then no, don't sow in the Fall. I wonder if they would start the same way as my poppies and larkspur. I sprinkle the seed in the winter - usually February, on the snow. You will need to remember where you want them!! lol. Hopefully, someone who has actually done this with BB's will chime in.
