Lupine seeds now

I just picked some ripe lupin seeds from a very pretty cherry red lupin. Would it be possible to start them now under lights, put them outside while it is cold, then plant them out in the springtime, to get flowers next spring? Or should I just chuck them in the flowerbed and let them do their own thing? Annette, I saw on a previous thread that you have started lupins in years gone by, so I certainly would appreciate your input.
